ASL RULES

Our golden rule is for everyone in the Awesome Spaders League to relax and have fun with friends and play spades!

League Format

ASL is considered a regular, NO DOUBLE NIL spades league, which also allows and supports any type of alternative match variation to be played, as mentioned in the list of accepted games within the rules. Please check the Tournament Rules to see which formats are allowed in tournament play.

All alternate formats must be advertised in the lobby properly before play begins. EX: ASL 8h WHIZ @ table 1. Once the cards have been dealt, it will be considered match play.

League Standards

  • 60 teams maximum
  • 41 players Including friend per team
  • 60 days before a team is purged for inactivity
  • 30 Days before streaks are reset due to inactivity
  • 1 player and a Friend are require before a team may begin to play
  • 1-5 tournaments per day

Transfer of Stats

  • Awesome Spaders League does not transfer stats. All games shown played on the ASL Ladder are earned in the Awesome Spaders League. This provides all players with an equal chance to make it into the Hall of Fame.

Resetting Stats

  • It is against ASL rules to withdraw and sign back up to reset stats. You will be issued a warning the first time and afterwards your account may be locked for continuing to do this.
  • If you wish to have your stats reset, please contact any of the admin who would be more than happy to reset them for you. You are allowed to have your stats reset once a week.
  • Teams are NEVER allowed to reset their stats.

Changing Nic

  • If you wish to have your nic changed, you may do so by going into My Account on the home page of the ASL League, www.awesomespaders.com. If you are unsure, then please feel free to ask any of the admin who can change it for you.
  • Once you change a nic, you have to wait 7 days before you can change it again.

  • It is against ASL rules to withdraw and sign back up to change your nic.

ASL Staff

  • ASL staff are not permitted to staff in any other league other than ASL. This includes both administrators and tourney directors. TDs can host in two different game leagues, such as cribbage and spades, but not in the same game, such as two different spades leagues.

Respectful lobby

  • ASL will NOT tolerate any lobby disruptions that evoke negativity towards the league or players.
  • It is the responsibility of all members of ASL to ensure the lobby remains a pleasant place for anyone to be in or watch at all times.
  • Remember you can always put players on "ignore" on your private messenger and you will not see what they type in the lobby or at tables and they will not be able to see what you type, either.
  • Inappropriate language will NOT be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, profanity (including abbreviations), sexual content (such as explicit language, innuendo or reference to sexual preference).
  • There is to be no talk about illegal drugs or any type of illegal activities, racial, ethnic, religious slurs,or conversations of a political nature.
  • If you are asked to stop in the lobby and do not honor that request, you will have received your only warning and can expect a gag. If you continue after the gag, then you will receive a penalty box.

Teams

  • ASL is an open league and we do not require an interview before starting a team.
  • To start a team, the captain needs to add the (pal) plus have at least one other player.
  • The Captains are responsible for the actions of their team members and are expected to uphold the values and rules of the league.
  • Teams may have up to 40 members plus the pal.

Team actions and complaints

  • All complaints must be sent to the admin through email, by your team captain.  File a Complaint.   We prefer team captains work out problems with their teammates if possible before filing a complaint.

  • Top-ranked team

    • Any team holding first or second place must play the first or second ranked position within a 24 hour period or both teams will be rung 10 positions on the ladder if the second place team is in that ranked position for most of that 24 hours. Please be aware that the 2nd place team name could easily change over that 24 hour period. Please check your team roster after each match to make sure you completed the 1st vs 2nd rank match as 2nd place can change during your current match. If 2nd place did change, you will need to find the new 2nd place team until your roster shows you completed the 1 vs 2 match. When several games are going at once the ladder can move quickly so it may take several games to get that 1 vs 2 match.
    • Teams holding 1st and 2nd positions need to be available for all teams to have the opportunity to play and need to be very active while holding those top positions regardless of team size. If the admin see that a higher rank team is avoiding making itself available to the other teams, it will be rung also.

    Recruiting

    • Recruiting by captains or league members from other teams within this league or in other league rooms, either in the lobby or by private message, will not be tolerated. If you are approached while in ASL by someone recruiting for another team or league then capture chat and send it to admin email. Recruiters should look up a players nic in find player to see what team they are on before recruiting them.

    Same Household

    • Members of the same household may not play at the same table unless assigned to opp each other in a tourney.
    • Same household players may only kibitz each other at a game table.
    • If you are a member in the same household or same workplace, you must notify the administration through email.  Email Notification.   Please submit your ladder nic, email addresses and team names of all involved.

    Game addying guidelines

    • Before addying for any format, please check to make sure there are no current game requests for the same format already out. If there is, either join them or wait until they get a game before you begin to addy.
    • REGULAR NDN and REGULAR ALL BIDS are different formats.
    • You may addy a different format at the same time other open game requests are out as long as it is not the exact same format.
    • When the lobby is moving quickly, a game addy may be missed and someone else might addy for the exact same format. When this happens, just politely state which table had the addy out first then the other table addy should get up and go to the first addy table out of respect for the team and to show good sportsmanship for over addying.
    • We encourage anyone who wants to play and who does not have a partner to sit at any game addy and actively ask for a pal. There are usually plenty of players who are willing to partner anyone else at any time. Be prepared, if you don't have anyone readily available to pal, to stand so that a team who is ready to play can sit.

    Pals

    • Any team member is allowed to start a game with a non-team member as a team pal.
    • That player does not have to be on a team but does have to be registered with the ASL league.
    • If you are starting a game with a pal as a partner, please notify your opponents in the table chat at the start of the game.

    Misbid/Misplays

    • Misbid/misplays are allowed one time on the first hand of any game. After that, there is a "Renege Button" at the table that you can use. You will go back in points, but you don't have to forfeit.

    Table settings

    • It is all four players responsibility to check table settings at the beginning of the game.
    • After the first hand, the table settings stay and game is reported by the losing team at the end of the game regardless of table setting.

    Ties

    • In the case of a tie score, regardless of how many bags each team has, play one more hand.

    Reporting

    • Both players of both teams must stay at the table until the report is made. This is to ensure accurate reporting.
    • If you need to leave, then please post at the table that you need to leave.
    • Before leaving the table, please check your team roster page after every report to ensure the correct players have been given the correct wins and losses.

    Misreported game

    • A misreported game occurs when the wrong player is credited with a win or loss. Misreported games can be corrected manually by an admin upon notification.

    Table Talk

    • Table talk is any talk that could affect the outcome of a hand or game either by the players or kibitzers watching the game.
    • Any statements made that are intentionally not done to get an unfair advantage but instead are done in poor judgment will be ruled as table talk and will result in league penalties.
    • Please be careful what you say while a game is in progress and please wait until last card to make any comments.

    Cheating

    • Cheating is anything that is intentionally said or done on the table, in private message or in the lobby, etc. to get an unfair advantage to win a game.
    • Email admin any statements made that are proven as intentional cheating with proper documentation (logged or captured chats or screen shots of table and/or pm with time stamps.  File a Complaint.  Proof of cheating will result in a lifetime ban from ASL.

    Accusations of cheating without proof

    • Accusations of cheating without proof, whether straight out or insinuated, are against league rules.
    • If you suspect cheating, you are not to discuss it at the table or with other players but pm an admin who will advise you.

    Game Avoidance

    • If you sit and addy for a game then you must play against whoever sits at the table, with no exceptions.
    • You cannot have any players blocked if you addy for games.
    • If you are not happy with the players that sit and you get up without playing, you and your team will receive a loss for the game and your team will be rung to the bottom of the ladder.

    Slow Play

    • If there are multiple complaints against slow play by any one member or team, a verbal warning will be given. While it is not always possible to play with a speedy pace every game, no one should have slow play to warrant multiple complaints against one member or team.
    • People that play slow due to a handicap are excluded from this rule.
    • Please be respectful of others while playing.

    Kibitzing rule

    • Whether or not cards will be shown to a kibber is the choice of the person being kibbed. Each person playing will make their own choice. This rule applies to both regular game and tournament games.
    • Kibitzers should not carry on lengthy conversations during games they are watching as it can be distracting to the players and cause game disruption. If a player asks you to stop, please do so.

    Boots/BRBs

    • You have 10 minutes for a boot and 5 minutes for a BRB (be right back)for any given league game. It is common courtesy to ask for a HLC (hold last card) for a brb.
    • A sub will be required to finish the game if a player has a total of 3 boots and/or BRBs during the game.
    • If a player boots and is unable to return and the partner is only a pal, then another player from the team should be asked to sub by requesting in the lobby. If no one is available, then please contact the admin who will report the loss for the team player who booted.

    Penalty Guide

The following penalty guide has been established as a measure to ensure fair and consistent treatment of infractions committed by league members. While we strive to avoid assessing time in the penalty box, we acknowledge that from time to time, this type of punishment will be required. However, we do ask that all members of the league try to reach a resolution between themselves and/or their Captains before involving the Admin team.

It is possible to have more than one infraction within a single complaint. Your Admin team reserves the right to increase the box time indicated, based on the severity of the infraction.

Please note that each first offense are a warning (except for cheating, accusing of cheating, extreme lobby conduct, and avoiding a loss) the reason is to give each member the same chance. Note the second offense has a minimum 3 day box. This is because they were warned. There could be many reasons why it could happen a first time, but no excuse for the second.
